Swords and Roses
Founded in 2000 by sisters Maria and Susan Romine, Swords and Roses started out as an entertaining pirate show at the Greater St. Louis Renaissance Faire. The sisters took their show on the road incorporating Susan’s background as a reading specialist and Maria’s background in theater. Besides the Renaissance Faire, they soon found themselves performing at libraries and scouting events.
In 2009, Maria expanded the company and her vision of the company while Susan started to focus on family life. Maria auditions and trains the actresses she hires in the skill of stage combat. Maria’s mission is to give actresses opportunities to work in their field and also train them in this unique skill so they feel empowered when they audition.
In 2017, thanks to Maria’s friend, who is the owner of Buccaneer Blades Fencing School, Maria is able to add to her vision of Swords and Roses an Academy of Stage Combat. Now, people who are interested in this unique skill can be trained whether they are performers, writers, or thrill seekers looking for an interesting hobby.
In 2018, Swords and Roses and SugarCubed partnered to create Second Saturdays with Swords and Roses. You can now catch a interactive action adventure on a regular basis or add it to your list of things to see when you visit Historic Main Street in St. Charles, MO.
As a company, we are looking forward to providing our audiences with thrilling, interactive shows that the whole family can enjoy.
